Baobab Toll Plaza National Route N1 North, Limpopo

Tolplan provided the traffic and financial feasibility study, architectural and multi-disciplinary engineering services and toll systems and operations contract management services for the design and construction of the Baobab toll plaza which was constructed in an environmentally sensitive area north of the Soutpansberg in the Limpopo province for the South African National Road Agency SOC Limited. The architectural design of the toll plaza canopies represents the striking baobab trees of the area north of the Soutpansberg.

Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Services:

Tolplan designed the Baobab toll plaza electrical and mechanical systems allowing for the installation of material and equipment that takes into consideration the harsh and sensitive environmental conditions. The electrical and mechanical design included the following main systems: environmentally friendly road and area lighting installation, standby emergency diesel generator with underground bulk fuel tank, Uninterruptable Power Supply, electrical distribution boards and switchgear, building and toll lane fresh air supply system, including air-conditioning, and telemetry control system allowing for proper water management for the borehole installation.
